Big Wood is an ancient woodland site, designated as a nature reserve by English Nature in 1999 largely due to the large numbers of Wild Service trees of various ages.

A series of surveys have been carried out over the last few years. These are very valuable to Big Wood nature reserve and help identify the bio diversity of the nature Reserve.

Big Wood is a self contained eco system. Within this eco system you will find wild service trees, birds, bluebells, holly and oaks each helping each other survive without disturbance.

There are currently over 150 Friends many of whom help in the wood on Big Wood working days following an agreed management plan and helping to preserve Big Wood.
