Friends of Big Wood Nature Reserve
News and Thankyou
YOUR CARE, HELP AND CONSIDERATION FOR BIGWOOD SUSTAINS THIS BEAUTIFUL RARE AND ANCIENT WOODLAND
Just a note to thank the large group of volunteers who worked in the wood during the activity morning last weekend. As you were all divided up into small groups you may not be aware how much work was carried out. One group dug out a channel for the water to flow into the middle of the wood from the water leak in Temple Fortune Hill and diverted the flow from seeping down the outside path. ( Thames Water have been informed but say they cannot come within 2 weeks). Another team did a preliminary clearance of the ditches to remove obstructions etc. A third group rebuilt a long section of dead hedging. A fourth cleared a perimeter area where garden waste had been dumped and in addition clearance work took place in four glades. What a brilliant team - thank you so much.
BUT there is still much to do so don’t forget the next Activity Morning is planned for Saturday November 14th followed by another on Saturday December 12th. So please all come back as well as the Friends who kindly emailed to advised they were not available for last weekend. In addition newcomers are welcome- we meet at 10am at the top of Temple Fortune Hill. - PETER FALK
